This Family

Our family sat on the porch, taking in the beautiful fall weather while eating our lunch. During a rare lull in the conversation, Elijah said:

“You know what I think about this family? It needs improvements.”

The mother of this family nearly choked on her peanut butter-and-jelly sandwich.

(In spite of her laughter, she was painfully aware of improvements that need to happen, especially in her own life.)

Improvements aside, this family has a lot of fun together.

Last week Elijah had an appointment with his nutritionist in Wichita, which is about 85 miles from here. The morning of the appointment, as I was scurrying around finding shirts and socks for all the littles, I got a wild idea. (These wild ideas come with some regularity, sometimes from me and sometimes from my husband.)

“Hey, Will!” I said, “Why don’t we go on a field trip with the kids today if we’re in Wichita anyway?”

“Sure, why not!” he replied, and called to cancel the babysitter.

So, after wrangling 2 big people and 4 little people through a tiny doctor’s office, we set out for adventure!

We spent the whole afternoon at the Exploration Place. This science museum is perfect for children the ages of our children. Lots of interesting things to see and do, but not overwhelmingly huge and exhausting.

The children loved the aerospace exhibit! They spent lots of time flying planes.
